Pension Action Group

I published this to the CanadaLifers Yahoo Group:

"I attended the Pension Action Group meeting in Toronto last night. The place was packed. For you IT types, there were quite a few of the old familiar faces: Cec Adams (who still doesn't look any older than when he retired), Jim Thomson, Howard Newman, Fred Luken (up from NB) and Gene Kitagawa.

The fray has been entered. Due to the other fellow filing a class action suit, the group is proceeding with its own. They've hired Carl Brewer's lawyer (hockey types should understand this reference).

There are approximately 5000 people in the Canadian CLA pension plan. By default, you are a member of the group although you can opt out if you so desire. Only 850 members are known to the group thus far. We need to get our numbers up so that our class action suit will be the one selected to go forward (only one will).

The group's URL is http://www.trigger.net/~clpens
Please pass this along to anyone who is not a member of our Yahoo group and encourage them to register.Any errors or omissions? Please respond for the benefit of the group.

Thanks,Deb C."

Someone has replied thinking that they had hired Alan Eagleson. Not! There's between $250M and $300M in the surplus, but it may take about five years to get it all sorted and no guarantees. Just in time for early retirement for me.

It was really nice to see quite a few familiar faces. There were a few of the younger ones there as well as the old geezers (who were quite entertaining). Next meeting is scheduled for October.

D.
